You can use all normal conventions, limit searches by date, etc. Works quite well and beats the native search function. Find all posts by ilgar. I have the revised edition of the SAS survival guide if your looking for a military handbook thats a bit more modern although I think they did some revisions on the us armys survival guide too not sure. All the general survival guides mention the use of some kind of modern gear that you might have or packed in a survival kit.

If your looking for a living off the land naked into the wilderness type of guide check out john mcphersons books dixieangler and I use his forum I'm getting one of his books soon. Most ground or air forces will have some modern gear available. It is the nature of the situation. In a military survival situation you are either attempting to avoid the enemy or attempting to return to friendly troops, or both. Staying alive indefinatly is not the goal. Completion of the mission or return to active status is the goal. Ground troops are always overburdened with equipment.

Most of the time you have too much gear! Pilots and air grews usually carry some amount of E-gear, even if it is only a knife and water bottle. May aircraft have on board survival kits that are well thought out. It has been that way since WWII.

And as stated, the military has advanced survival schools open to various MOS, as well as the fact that operating with almost any combat unit is a continuious exercise in improvising gear and adapting the unusual to do the improbable in unacceptable circumstnces. The average GI in a combat role wakes up under an improvised shelter, crawls out of an improvised sleeping system. He slept in his boots and gear with his rifle.
